Lone Survivor Wrap Up

Lone Survivor is based on the failed mission, “Operation Red Wings”, which tasked four members of SEAL Team 10 on June 28, 2005 to kill Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. They were quickly compromised and fell under attack with Marcus Luttrell being the only member to survive and evade capture.

Written and directed by Peter Berg (Battleship) with Hollywood Studios Steven Saxton (The Kids Are All Right) as an Executive Producer, Lone Survivor was a five year long project. Only needing 42 days to shoot with its $40 million budget, stars Taylor Kitsch and Mark Wahlberg worked at a discount, along with Peter Berg in order to expedite the films production.

Lone Survivor opened in limited release in the United States on December 25, 2013, before opening across North America on January 10, 2014, to strong financial success and a generally positive critical response. Lone Survivor is currently grossing $150M+ worldwide of which $125M was from North America. The film received two Academy Award nominations for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing along with a multitude of other awards.
